Farewell, ‘Twilight’

Written By Unknown on Sabtu, 08 Desember 2012 | 18.37

At the end of the nearly two-hour-long "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2" — the last film in a more-than-10-hour-long "Twilight Saga" — a heartfelt song begins to play, and the closing credits begin. Each actor gets a brief showcase: an emotive look, a smile off at the distance, and a credit, e.g. "JOE ANDERSON as Alistair." This isn't just the stars, mind you — it's nearly all the actors who appeared in the entire series, even "RACHELLE LEFEVRE as Victoria," who was booted from the series and replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard — as we're reminded with the next credit card, "BRYCE DALLAS HOWARD as Victoria." The whole thing takes an eternity — a vampire lifetime! And it feels less like a farewell to characters we've grown to love than simply a tribute to the "Twilight" series itself — its cultural currency, its long reign at the box office and the many, many dollars spent over the years on tickets and collectible lunchboxes. The endless credits, however, also signal that the "Twilight" series is finally over. Let's please pound a stake in its heart to make sure it's dead.
