Book I'm reading now:

"Cooked: A Natural History of Transformation," by Michael Pollan. The author demystifies the properties of heat transfer and the process of transformation from raw to delicious in his signature and slightly obsessive style that I find fascinating and illuminating.

Last book I loved:

"This Is How You Lose Her," by Junot Díaz. Díaz is simply the best at telling these stories of love, loss and passion from a brilliant and sassy point of view.

Unread book on my bedside table that gnaws at my conscience:

"The Guide of the Perplexed," Maimonides. I am dying to read this but new stuff pops onto my nightstand every week. I'll probably start George Saunders's "Tenth of December" before this.

Three books in my field that I highly recommend:

"Blood, Bones and Butter," by Gabrielle Hamilton, and "The Devil in the Kitchen," by Marco Pierre White. Both are brilliant, well written and at the same time hilarious and thought-provoking on the topic of cooks and celebrities and troublemakers.

"Incognito: The Secret Lives of the Brain," by David Eagleman. This is a smart look at the effects that awareness may exert on the decision-making process, and although not loved by pure scientists, it certainly put me on a spinning top.

One book I would recommend to anyone:

"The Road Home," by Jim Harrison. Harrison is simply my favorite working author whose body of work encompasses passion for the natural world, physical pleasure, erudite American perspective and our remarkable attachment to the places we spend our developmental years. This is the capolavoro of an American national treasure.
