The 6th Floor Blog: Of Karaoke Kings and Pinball Wizards. Whatâ€™s Your Pleasure?

As I worked on "This Is Who Rules the Bars of New York," my roundup in this weekend's Food & Drink Issue of people who excel in activities like trivia and Ping-Pong at bars, I thought a lot about what exactly constitutes a bar pastime. Darts and pinball seem obvious. Bocce and drawing, less so.

I met some extraordinary people, but some types eluded me. How I hoped to find a shameless bar pickup artist! Sadly, no one stepped forward publicly as such.

Here's one more talented bar patron, Terence Collins, whose specialty is karaoke at the Baby Grand in Manhattan. "Karaoke is at its heart a cooperative experience," he told me. "Anyone who grabs the mike with the intent to upstage someone else is really missing the point."
